...Unit: Building a Community Garden Santuary
When the site is selected, they make a final plan for what plants to put into the garden based on soil, location, and availability. They make a plan to seek donations of plants or funds for their garden.
This experiential lesson involves building the garden and inviting people to enjoy and participate.

Students write to pen pals in a different community and discuss ideas related to a service project. For example, the pen pals may plan and monitor a canned-good donation project.

From stories and examples, participants identify attributes, motivation, and impact of philanthropists.

With the Nobel Peace Prize as an example of an award given for improvements to the common good, the young people list descriptors of people and organizations in their community or families who exhibit generosity and promote peace in some form.
