Creating a Passion for Philanthropy
To identify the intersection between students’ passions, community needs and the effectiveness of organizations selected.

Objectives:
Students will:
- Reflect and think about their passions for the causes and issues of a civil society
- Learn that giving should be based on their individual passion
- Learn about giving to what the community needs
- Learn that organizational effectiveness is one consideration in making giving decisions
Materials:
A guest speaker who is a representative of a local community agency. Brochures or handouts with descriptions of services provided to the community by the speaker’s agency.
Instructions:

A representative of a local community agency that relies upon philanthropic gifts will describe the means of matching a student’s interest in giving to a particular nonprofit.
The representative will also discuss the effectiveness of the nonprofit.
Assessment:
At the end of the course, students will decide to which organization they will donate money.
