This lesson briefly explains the process a group goes through as they deliberate and decide upon which applicant organizations will receive grant awards.

Unit: Hands On Philanthropy: A High School Course at Kentucky Country Day School
Unit: We the Kids - The Three Branches and Me
Participants analyze the essential qualities of the Core Democratic Values and how these values are evident in relationships and behavior in a classroom/group and in the community/nation.
Unit: Grow Involved 3-5
Children listen and respond to a biography of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. They discuss the importance of kind acts and service to others. They reflect on a quotation by Dr. King and apply it to their own lives.
Unit: Cultural Competence
Youth reflect on the lessons they have learned through building cultural competence in this unit. They identify an adult they trust to have critical, or difficult, conversations.
Unit: Character Education: Caring (Grade 7)
A celebrity philanthropist may become focused on a specific cause because her life is connected to the cause. Learners read about Oprah Winfrey's philanthopic work and then reflect on issues that are important to them.
Unit: My Country, My Community
In a persuasive essay, learners describe the responsibilities of American citizenship and the cost of freedom. They connect how philanthropic action is a part of those costs. “Freedom isn’t free. It passes on an enormous debt to the recipient.”
Unit: Sharing and Caring Across Generations
Through storytelling, children recognize that their actions and behaviors have an impact and become memories for future generations.
Unit: Character Education: Perseverance (Grade 6)
Learners brainstorm a variety of short-term and long-term goals and discuss the logistics of carrying out the goals. They brainstorm needed resources and how they can persevere in reaching one or more of the goals.
Unit: Character Education: Trustworthiness (Grade 7)
The learners read the metaphor drawings of the other groups and copy strong words and phrases that help define trustworthiness. They identify traits of people they know (including themselves) and write a definition of trustworthy.
Unit: Drumming from the Heart
The children visit a local preschool or retirement facility of their choosing to read aloud a book they wrote and illustrated about generous giving. They share a drumming experience and give the drums and books as gifts.
