The learners examine the meaning of respect, especially as it relates to relating to people with different views. They describe how inclusion and exclusion from groups can result in conflict and stem from disrespect.

The participants investigate the roles of historical and contemporary Latino philanthropists. They will look at the work of César Chávez and Dolores Huerta in the farm labor movement within the historical context of Latino activism in the United States.

Students examine the intent and reality of the orphan train and discuss whether it was an effective solution to child homelessness. They write and speak about the traits of someone who takes action for others and civil society.

Students play a game that involves taking risks and watching out for others. They discuss their feelings in both roles and discuss the role of trust and responsibility in community.

The children learn that even young people can be philanthropists. Philanthropy is giving time, talent, treasure for the good of the community.
Unit: Tolerance (Private-Religious)
Learners will examine the ethical foundations of tolerance from the Torah and understand what it means in both the religious and social context.
Unit: Beautiful Me
Children recognize an act of philanthropy in literature and discuss ways to make the world more beautiful with acts of philanthropy.
