These Australian folktales compare selfish and unselfish behaviors and tell the origin story of our permanent responsibility as caretaker of the land.

After learning about the definition of respect toward self and others, we explore the idea of respect for property or the environment. 

Youth explore the history of philanthropic behavior (sharing, community collaboration, service) in ancient cultures and today, as well as compare themes of love and service in different world religious practices. 

Learners brainstorm a variety of short-term and long-term goals and discuss the logistics of carrying out the goals. They brainstorm needed resources and how they can persevere in reaching one or more of the goals.

Students identify causes they care about and related nonprofits or community resources. They use writing as a tool to make a difference, using persuasive writing techniques.

Through storytelling, children recognize that their actions and behaviors have an impact and become memories for future generations. 

The purpose of this lesson is to have students recognize the idea of an emerging democracy, analyze the struggles of the people, and decide on a way to help the people.

The children explore attributes of the community in which they live. They compare ways to be generous in rural, urban, and suburban communities.

Through discussion of the book The Seven Chinese Brothers, learners recognize that using our talents and working together to help others has benefits greater than the opportunity cost (what we gave up to take generous action). 

Using primary source images and interviews, participants learn about life and economics during the Great Depression and how different sectors of society contributed to bringing the country out of this dark period.
