This lesson introduces the learner to some of the resources--individual, organizational (for profit and non profit), and governmental-- available to provide forewarning/alert, preparedness programs, as well as relief during and in the aftermath of natural disasters.

Children learn about the issues of plastic in the ocean. They learn the effects of plastic garbage on the environment, including the lives of animals.
Unit: Art for the Common Good—Junkanoo!
The groups wear their headdresses and perform a Junkanoo-like parade first internally and then to entertain a group that needs cheering or to teach about cooperation and respect for cultural expressions.

Explore the role of philanthropy in responding to emergencies, specifically personal and group efforts to support communities during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Unit: Be the Change: Homelessness
The learners build on their understanding, seeking actual facts and statistics about homelessness locally and nationally.
