In what ways can students use listening and visual imagery to communicate respect for differences? What new community forms when students find similarities with diverse others?
Listen with heART to the Voices of Our Community: In this unit, three lessons stand alone to involve youth of different ages in visual literacy techniques and generous listening. Our differences offer opportunities for kind and respectful dialogue. We explore and use the language of art and design to communicate respect for others in community.
Learners use visual literacy skills to talk about an artistic image. They listen respectfully to the different opinions and perspectives of their peers. They identify a need in their school or community and create a simple image that tells others to think differently or take action to improve that need.
