Activity
At-a-Glance

Time:

10 minutes, depending on the size of the group

Materials:

  • Dinner size paper plates
  • Pens or Pencils

Physical Setting:

Large room where group can move around to gather names

Purpose:

  • To acquaint members of the board with one another.

Activity Steps:

  1. Give each participant a paper plate and ask them to print their names in large letters across the plate.

  2. Ask them to circulate and add their names to each other’s nameplates, connecting letters in a crossword or Scrabble fashion. Continue until everyone has signed every name plate.

  3. As they add their names, ask them to share a little bit of infor¬mation about themselves. Vary the types of information, so participants share a variety of facts.

  4. To start discussion, ask for general observations about the group. “What kind of people are here today?”
