LEARNING TO GIVE PRESENTS:

boy with dadCommunity Foundation Donor Development Tool: Instilling Philanthropic Traditions Within the Family

A Workshop Series for Community Foundations, Presented to Donors by Community Foundations

About the Tool

ABOUT THE TOOL

Learning to Give, the acknowledged expert in K-12 philanthropy education, announces the creation of a new Community Foundation Donor Development Tool that explores the concepts of family philanthropy with children of donors. Learning to Give’s philanthropy curriculum and service-learning activities teach young people the importance of contributing their time, talent and treasure for the common good.

Included in the package are all the resources necessary to conduct a Workshop Series for children whose parents and grandparents are Community Foundation donors. This Series assists in building stronger relationships with donors and enhances donor services.

It is a powerful addition to the educational services provided to donors by community foundations.

HOW THE TOOL WORKS

Workshop Hosted

The Community Foundation hosts a workshop series for their donor’s children and/or grandchildren (targeted to youth in grades 2-5, or ages 7-11) and their grandparents or parents who have donor advised funds.

Youth gain an understanding of:

  • Philanthropy as a concept.
  • Philanthropy and its relationship to money.
  • Philanthropy in the community.

At the end of the workshop series, the participants and the donor practice philanthropy by donating monetarily to or volunteering for a nonprofit organization that is agreed upon by the donor’s family.

Dialogue

Workshop Series

  • Highly interactive and activity based
  • Rich with philanthropic substance
  • Designed with specific learning goals

During the workshop there is an optional opportunity for parents or grandparents to meet together to discuss the philanthropic education of their children. When the workshop is complete, the Community Foundation can continue this dialogue with their donors and play a vital role in teaching the next generation of philanthropists how to be involved in the community and their family’s philanthropy.
