Where do you stand?

The first step in working together as a family is knowing where you stand. Parents and children often have very different ideas about money. To see where your family stands, complete the following worksheets.

Children should fill out the family profile for children. Parents should complete the family profile for parents. Complete the profiles separately. When you’ve finished, discuss your answers.

Family profile for children
Family profile for parents and caregivers

Discuss your results

Did you notice a difference in the responses to the profile? Often parents and children view money matters differently. Parents might believe they are being open, while children believe that family money matters could be shared more. Children might believe they are responsible with money, while parents believe their kids could improve.

Discuss your answers together and see where you stand. If your answers are different, share why. You might find you have a lot to learn from each other!
