The lessons are designed to encourage students to become active participants within their school environment, thus creating many opportunities for displaying an understanding of "private action for the common good."
Unit Purpose:
To begin building a philanthropic foundation in students that encourages them to become active participants in society.
Unit Objectives:
The learner will:
- Students will use new philanthropic vocabulary and be able to explain what the words mean
- Students will give examples and demonstrate ways in which they can positively affect their community.
Unit Assessment:
- Various rubrics, observation, verbal responses, graphing, and writing.
- Compile all rubric grades, observations and products to determine overall unit performance.
Notes for Teaching:
Keep rubrics simple. At this level, model, model, model! Find what works best for you to keep records of student performance. Keep a philanthropy portfolio accessible for each student so that books, charts, etc. can be stored in one specific area.
