Justice and Kindness Play a Part
Youth raise awareness of ways to advocate for justice and kindness and bring positive change in their school, community, and world.
The learner will:
- reflect on experiences of injustice and inequity.
- describe what it means to advocate for justice and kindness.
- cards cut from handout: Justice and Kindness Discussion Cards
What club could be started to celebrate cultural diversity with values of justice, fairness, and kindness?
Instructions
Anticipatory Set:
Discuss: What can someone do when they see someone treated unfairly or when they hear an insensitive comment?
With youth sitting in a circle, distribute the cards facedown that you have cut from the handout: Justice and Kindness Discussion Cards. These are discussion prompts to reflect on examples of injustice.
In turns, they read their card to the group for whole group discussion. They may reflect in their journal or turn to a neighbor before discussing as a whole group.
Discuss whose responsibility it is to promote justice and kindness and why.
Encourage them to think of their role as they listen to the news and social media and hear stories of injustice as well as stories of people working toward equity and fairness.
