The purpose of this unit is to assist the learner in developing a deeper understanding of what it means to be a steward of the environment and to apply this knowledge to identified environmental problems as they relate to landscaping and gardening.
Focus Question: “How can I, as one person, become a steward of my environment and affect positive change?”
The learner will:
- explain the meaning of environmental stewardship.
- articulate an understanding that one person can make a difference.
- identify ways in which they can personally be an environmental steward.
- describe conservation practices for a local landscape garden.
- analyze conservation practices for a local landscape garden.
- apply conservation practices to their own home landscape garden.
- access and explore a landscape garden design in the school/community.
- develop a landscape garden design.
- implement a landscape garden design.
- assess, evaluate, and reflect on the completed project.
The purpose of this lesson is for the learners to experience putting to use, in their school and/or community, what they have learned about environmental stewardship, landscape design and gardening. Learners will identify an agency in their community for the implementation of their “Landscape Garden Makeover” design.
