Explore the major concepts relating the priciples of democracy to philanthropy. Learners will compare philanthropic concepts to the core documents of the Unites States and discover how the independent sector serves as a checks and balances to the government. Start the module now.
Duration: 30-45 minutes
Learning Objectives:
The learner will:
- identify and explain major concepts that relate the philanthropic sector to principles of democracy, including: social contract, social capital, and “self-interest rightly understood.”
- identify and describe the relationship of philanthropic concepts to core documents of the founding of the United States and protecting minority rights.
- identify how nonprofit organizations serve as mediating institutions.
- how the independent sector holds government officials accountable for their actions and provides new ideas to keep our democratic institutions vigorous and changing with the times.
