Defining Philanthropy

Module Introduction

Description

Learn about the power of philanthropy (sharing time, talent and treasure for the common good). Empower young people to make a difference in their school, their community and their world! Learn basic definitions that establish the “common language” and concepts to help an educator talk to young people about service, respect, caring, citizenship, community, and “doing good.” Spend time reflecting on your own motivations for and experiences with philanthropy.

Learning Objectives

The learner will:

  1. define philanthropy as giving time, talent and treasure, and taking action for the common good.
  2. recognize the contributions and value of the nonprofit sector to a civil society.
  3. reflect on personal motivations, experiences and benefits of philanthropy.

CEU Credit

Upon successful completion of each module, the learner may request a certificate suitable for a professional development portfolio or as proof of educational clock hours that can be used towards continuing education credit in most states. Please contact your State Department of Education for specific information.
