August Events and Resources

August: Establishing a Culture of Service

As you set the stage for a year of service and community engagement, introduce some of these themes and lessons that build a common vocabulary of philanthropy and explore how and why we give. Help youth discover they are truly assets to the community with time, talent, or treasure to give that is valued and needed.

  • Back to School - Simply teach about philanthropy to get started with a community-centered classroom.
  • Cultural Competency - Activities and discussions to build awareness of and generosity toward people of diverse backgrounds and experiences.
  • Character Education - Middle school character education advisory lessons with academic, character, and philanthropy themes.
  • Build Community and Kindness - Explore how acts of kindness impact the whole community with lessons and project ideas.

Kindness

Kindness is hardly ever wrong in any situation. Patience, standing up to injustice, and generous listening can take courage at times, but focusing on small things we can control can make it more manageable. This toolkit provides information, activities, and resources to help youth take big and small actions to promote kindness.
