This brief tutorial will give you a tour of the rich and useful Learning to Give website. This course guides you through key starting points and tips for finding some of the great resources available. The more you explore, the more you'll find to guide your practice and help you infuse philanthropy education into all your subject areas. This is not an add-on, but an enrichment to what you are already teaching.
Upon successful completion of this course, the learner may request a certificate suitable for a professional development portfolio, or as proof of educational clock hours that can be used toward continuing education credit in most states. Learn about the different entry points to finding lessons on the Learning to Give site. Lessons teach philanthropy concepts in the context of academic themes and connect to community resources and service projects. We'll give you search tips and show you where lessons are grouped by themes.
You don't need to know a complicated strategy or have a project planned. We help you get started by teaching one lesson. Or you might designate a day when everyone in the building teaches one lesson to build common vocabulary and tools for looking at community issues and needs -- a simple start that leads to a whole-school culture of giving and empathy for the common good.
Learning to Give resources will help students see ways to use their talents as active community members. Through exposure to a variety of knowledge and experience, you help your students prepare for a life of responsible citizenship. We want to help you infuse knowledge, skills, and action of philanthropy - giving and civic engagement - into your school year.
